[CRYOLIST] PhD in airborne SAR remote sensing of snow at the University of Waterloo (Canada)

Dear Cryolisters,

Are you interested in developing the science of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) remote sensing of snow? We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented PhD student to work with a team of researchers in Canada to help develop novel methods to estimate snow water equivalent (SWE) from Ku and L-band SAR airborne observations. The position, a 4 year funded PhD studentship, will conduct airborne SAR experiments and cold season field work in Canada, and will help develop remote sensing snow mass retrieval methods. Based in Waterloo, Ontario, your research will support the science underpinning state-of-the-art remote sensing of snow and will connect with other researchers in the Transformative Sensor Technologies and Smart Watersheds project which is part of the Global Water Futures project. The research will also connect with University and Government collaborators.

Essential skills needed: experience with science application of SAR (any area);  programming expertise; strong science background (e.g. physics, geoscience, engineering physics, physical geography, geomatics); quantitative remote sensing background.
Desirable skills: understanding of the principles of SAR remote sensing; a keenness to conduct season field work in cold season environments.

Best

Richard
