Dear Cryolisters,
We would like to draw your attention to the following session to be held at GSA's entirely online meeting. The abstract deadline is August 4th. The meeting will be held the last week of October.
Session ID#: 49796
Title: T150. Cold Regions Weathering and Biogeochemical Cycling: Bridging Environments and Approaches
Rationale: The Earth's cold regions play a major role in global biogeochemical cycles, with permafrost acting as a store of organic matter, glaciers providing large fluxes of freshly ground mineral surfaces, and microbial life exploiting unique pathways in extreme environments. In this session, we invite work that spans the range of high latitude and high altitude environments from glaciated to frozen ground, from marine to terrestrial. Temporal settings can range from contemporary in situ measurements to epoch- spanning geological archives. Methods may include microbiology, hydrochemistry, mineralogy, and the range of stable and radio isotope systems. With this interdisciplinary session, we bring diverse perspectives to the spatial and temporal variability in cold regions weathering and biogeochemical cycling. We aim toward quantifying the global consequences of cold regions changes both over past glacial-interglacial cycles and into a future warming world.
Sincerely,
Joseph Graly
