[CRYOLIST] AGU Fall 2020 session: Understanding Ice-Shelf Processes

Dear all,

We invite abstract submissions to our ice shelf session at AGU 2020, C035: Understanding Ice-Shelf Processes. The deadline for submission is July 29th. Please find the session abstract below.

Session Abstract:

Ice shelves are a crucial part of the marine ice sheet system. They provide buttressing to upstream grounded ice and in many places around Antarctica form the interface between the ice sheet and the ocean. Any future change in ice-shelf thickness, size and structural integrity is likely to have a profound impact on ice-sheet mass balance.

This session will bring together a wide range of research focused on improving the understanding of ice-shelf processes. From ice-shelf dynamics and buttressing, to processes governing potential change and instability; iceberg calving, fracture mechanics, surface hydrology and basal melting.

Presentations are welcome from those undertaking process-based studies, modelling and/or observational work.

Potential topics may include, but are not limited to: ice-shelf buttressing and pinning points; grounding-zone mechanics; crevasse formation; iceberg calving; ice-shelf stability; surface hydrology; ice-ocean interactions; current, past and future change.
