[CRYOLIST] AGU 2020: Session C034 - Sub-Ice-Sheet and Sub-Ice-Shelf Environments: Bridging the Gap Between Modern Observations and Geologic Records

Dear Colleagues,

Please consider submitting an abstract to our AGU Fall meeting session C034: Sub-Ice-Sheet and Sub-Ice-Shelf Environments: Bridging the Gap Between Modern Observations and Geologic Records. We encourage abstracts that highlight how modern observational and modeling efforts and paleoclimate records can be united to generate a more holistic understanding of ice sheet processes.

We are particularly excited about our invited presentations from two dynamic early-career researchers, Kiya Riverman (University of Oregon) and Drew Christ (University of Vermont).

Thank you,

Session ID: 103911
Section: Cryosphere
Description: Interconnected physical and geobiological systems in the subglacial environment modulate modern ice-sheet processes and leave an imprint on the sedimentary archive of paleo-ice-sheet behavior. A holistic view of the extent, magnitude, and timescale of glaciological, geochemical, geomorphic, hydrological, and geobiological processes can help refine our quantification of past, present, and future ice-sheet state. This session aims to bring together studies from a variety of fields to explore how modern observations and models of sub-ice systems can improve our interpretation of paleoclimate records and how inferences from paleoclimate records can help contextualize the relevance and magnitude of modern sub-ice processes. We encourage contributions that cover a wide-range of methods, including direct borehole sampling, in situ and remote geophysical observation, laboratory experiments, sedimentological analysis, biogeochemical studies, geochronological surveys, and modeling studies, in order to improve our collective process-to-paleo perspective
