[CRYOLIST] Meeting announcement: WMO Satcom Forum, Paris, France, 11th-13th October

Dear colleagues,

If you are interested in using satellite communications to collect data from remote locations, please come and join us for the World Meteorological Organisation’s Satcom Forum event from October 11th-13th 2022 in Paris, France.

The event is free to attend and will take place alongside the Meteorological Technology World Expo https://www.meteorologicaltechnologyworldexpo.com/en/index.php, with thanks to UKI Media and Events for their support.

We will have a range of speakers from the satellite industry, manufacturers of instrumentation, and from scientists and public officials who use satellite communications to collect data from remote instrumentation like weather stations, floating buoys, hydrological gauging stations and so on. The satellite communications sector is changing rapidly, with many new services entering the market, and it is much cheaper than it used to be. It is now possible to have basic monitoring of a remote instrument for less than $2 per month, so even if you had not considered using satellite before it is well worth considering. The speakers at the event will bring you right up-to-date with the latest products and services.

We hope that you will be able to attend in person and benefit from seeing the exhibits at the Expo, but we also hope to enable remote participation - this is awaiting final confirmation.

If you would like to speak at the event, particularly if you have good or bad experiences with satellite communications that you’d like to share with the community, I’d be interested to hear from you. Please email me directly with a brief abstract of your talk proposal. I’m going to be travelling for the next few weeks so I may not reply immediately. I’ll also be at Cryosphere 2022 in Reykjavik so you could speak to me directly there.

Best wishes,

Mike
