Dear all,
Back on 9th February I sent an optimistic reminder that we at the University of Liverpool were planning to host the IGS British Branch Meeting in September in the wonderful city of Liverpool. With the easing of many social distancing restrictions in the UK this week we are still very much hoping that this will take place, though we remain mindful of the continuing uncertainty and will have to remain flexible.
Consequently we are aiming to release the details of how to register, submit an abstract for a talk or poster, book accommodation etc etc in the next couple of weeks. We have been delayed from the usual timetable due to circumstances but are working quickly to catch up. We will circulate a link to the relevant webpages and keep registration open through till the end of July, a bit later than usual. A final decision on the format of the meeting (in person, socially distanced, hybrid, online etc) will need to made soon after that. Reimbursement of costs incurred through our online booking webpages will be straightforward if it comes to that. Obviously this makes planning diaries a bit awkward but if you can pencil in the 6-8th September 2021 for Liverpool, then please do so and start thinking about abstracts, posters and talks.
The main meeting will take place on 7th and 8th September but we would aim to hold a field excursion linked to the early career scientists group on Monday 6th September. We are also hoping to organise social gatherings in some suitably COVID-responsible format on both the Monday and Tuesday evenings.
Fingers crossed that we can run this, but of course, if need be, we’ll revert to an online format which worked very well last year.
