Dear cryolisters,
With apologies for cross posting.
Please consider submitting an abstract to our session at the XIII International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences (ISAES) (22-26 July 2019, Incheon, Republic of Korea):
Evolution of Antarctic topography and bathymetry: understanding links between erosion, deposition, isostasy and ice sheet behaviour (Theme 2 and Theme 5)
Co-conveners: Stewart Jamieson , Kathy Licht , Karsten Gohl and Pippa Whitehouse
Description: Quantifying the evolution of Antarctic topography and bathymetry, via the processes of erosion, deposition, tectonics and isostasy, is crucial for understanding past ice sheet and climate interactions during the Cenozoic. The bedrock geology, elevation of the land surface and regional morphology of continental shelves exert a strong influence on ice sheet behaviour. Consequently, the patterns of, and feedbacks between, erosion, deposition, tectonics isostasy, and ice flow all need to be understood. This is particularly important where past environments are being used to understand ice sheet sensitivity to climate as this sensitivity likely changes as the landscape evolves.
This session therefore aims to identify, understand and quantify both long-term and short-term changes to the large-scale topography and bathymetry of Antarctica. It also aims to understand the importance of such changes for the behaviour of the ice sheet.
We invite contributions that incorporate geophysics, geological provenance studies and modelling to constrain or reconstruct patterns and rates of landscape evolution and/or glacial isostasy. Submissions might consider terrestrial and marine erosion and/or sedimentation and solid earth response on local, regional or continental scales. Studies that elucidate the relationship to, and feedbacks between, these processes and ice sheet evolution in Antarctica are particularly encouraged.
The deadline for abstract submissions is 31st March 2019. We look forward to seeing you in Incheon!
Regards,
Stewart, Kathy, Karsten and Pippa.
