[CRYOLIST] 4-year PhD position combining Permafrost Remote Sensing and Data Science

Dear colleagues,

We are seeking high-caliber candidates for an open 4-year PhD position combining Permafrost Remote Sensing and Data Science in the Helmholtz Einstein International Berlin Research School in Data Science (HEIBRiDS). The position will be based at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research in Potsdam, Germany, and is jointly funded through the Geo.X Network and AWI:

Facilitating Machine Learning on Super-High Resolution Earth Observation Data for Detecting and Quantifying Arctic Permafrost Thaw Dynamics

In this project, the PhD candidate will focus on development and application of machine learning-based methods for the analysis of high-resolution airborne data and satellite imagery of permafrost landforms for ground ice and thaw detection across large regions.

The 4-year PhD position is remunerated at 100% EG13 payscale of German civil service. The successful candidate will work on this collaborative project in a team with partners from AWI, HU Berlin, and DLR. Project start should be between July and October 2019.
