Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to participate in our EGU session (TS1.6):
Assessing high-temperature deformation mechanisms of minerals from ice and firn: linking laboratory experiments, field investigations and numerical modelling.
Our session focuses on the physical processes and mechanisms that underpin ice and firn deformation across multiple scales. We welcome a broad range of perspectives from laboratory experiments, numerical modelling and field investigations. Quantifying the rates of ice and firn deformation is crucial to predicting ice polar flow in response to global heating. Furthermore, ice and firn provide a critical analogue for rock-forming minerals deforming at temperatures close to their melting points.
The session is a hybrid session. We also aim to provide a hybrid space to discuss the state-of-the-art of the field, as well as a separate space for discussion amongst early career researchers. We particularly encourage contributions from underrepresented backgrounds, and as conveners we are committed to fostering an inclusive space.
Please encourage your students and/or colleagues who may be interested in this session to attend.
Abstract deadline: Tuesday, 10 January 2023, 13:00 CET
