[CRYOLIST] Deadline 14 Feb - SCAR OSC - Session on Permafrost, Periglacial, Ice-free

The deadline for submission of abstracts to the next SCAR Open Science Conference to be held in Auckland is already next friday. We invite you to submit a contribution to the Antarctica permafrost, periglacial and ice-free areas session. Please see the details below.

SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research meeting in Auckland including SCAR Open Science Conference from 25-28 August 2014. 

 Please consider submitting an abstract for the Antarctic Permafrost, periglacial, and ice free Areas session.  
The  session "Antarctic Permafrost, Periglacial and ice-free Environments"  focuses on permafrost, on the overlying active layer and on the related landforms and ecosystems that characterize almost all the ice-free areas of Antarctica. As an example, the Antarctic Peninsula is one of the fastest warming areas of the planet whereas in the Ross sea area air temperatures are relatively stable. This offers the chance to understand different responses of permafrost and the active layer as well as the interactions with ecosystems and the geomorphologic evolution. These environments present a unique opportunity to carry out multidisciplinary analyses’ to investigate the impacts of the climate change exportable in the larger permafrost areas of the Arctic. Also these environments represent also an analogue with the extraterrestrial environments such as Mars. 
The closing date for abstracts is 14 February.  Please send a copy of the submitted abstract also to: mauro.guglielmin@uninsubria.it -  Prof. Mauro Guglielmin is the session convenor.
