[CRYOLIST] A request - searching for sound recordings from icy landscapes

Dear Cryosphere community

I am reaching out to see if anybody has any sound recordings from glacial/cryospheric systems that they would be willing to share. I am helping a group of artists with an exhibition that they are putting together for an Edinburgh gallery which considers the beauty of ice, and its ongoing loss, through a range of mediums.

As part of this exhibition, they are intending to create an immersive icy 'soundscape'. I therefore wonder if anyone has any sounds from glacial systems that they would be willing to share (e.g. water pouring down moulins/gurgling down crevasses, creaking sea-ice, fracturing glaciers, calving events, rumbling proglacial bedload transport, howling spindrift etc etc).

I helped as an advisor with a previous exhibition called "Glacial Narratives" (https://www.taigh-chearsabhagh.org/events/glacial-narratives/) and am again just trying to assist the artists with their new venture (to provide an alternative avenue of communication with the wider public about ice and climate change, as opposed to through the science/media narrative with which I am more familiar).

If you have any recordings from icy environments that you would be willing to share, please get in touch with me directly at peter.nienow@ed.ac.uk. I should perhaps emphasise that the only purpose for any of these recordings is for use in the exhibition soundscape and anyone contributing sounds would of course be acknowledged.

Thanks, and I hope you can find those cool and weird recordings that you made on a whim while on fieldwork!

Best wishes

Pete Nienow
