At DTU space, we seek candidates for a PhD scholarship in Earth Observation for ice sheet surface mass balance, in collaboration with the National Centre for Climate Research at the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), and the Department of Glaciology and Climate at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS).
The ice sheet surface mass balance (SMB) is a crucial element of assessing the health of ice sheets, and within this project you will develop new methods to quantify SMB directly from Earth Observation data. The project work will include combining multiple data records for the ice sheet in new ways and we see the project to evolve in several different directions depending on your past experiences and interest, e.g., data mining, machine learning, numerical ice sheet modelling and/or theoretical algorithm development.
