[CRYOLIST] Antarctica Day Webinar by APECS, 1 December (Azamat Tolipov)

Dear Cryolist,
(apologies for cross-posting)

As Antarctica Day (1 December) is approaching fast, we at the Antarctica Day Project Group (ADPG), APECS, are excited to inform you that we are organizing activities to engage the polar community and the general public in celebrating one of the most successful achievements of humanity - The Antarctic Treaty signed in 1959. By celebrating Antarctica Day, we aim to increase the awareness of the global importance of the continent that controls and reacts to the changes in global climate and ocean.

One of the events being planned is the Antarctica Day Webinar to be held on 1 December 2021. The webinar programme for Antarctica Day 2021 will include at least one, but preferably two webinar sessions - to reach as many participants as possible in different time zones - on the theme "Life and Work at Antarctic Research Stations". The webinar sessions will be moderated by members of ADPG and will include a 5-10 min introduction to Antarctic research stations. Afterwards invited scientists, early career researchers, general staff and others who worked/are working at different Antarctic stations will get the opportunity to give a 5-10 min presentation to share their personal story and connection to their respective stations. You could include a brief introduction on the location or history of the research station, some information on your work/scientific work on and around the station preferably accompanied by photo and video materials. The webinar sessions will conclude with a Q/A session. The duration of the webinar sessions should not exceed 1.5 h in total.

The idea is to reach a maximum diversity of Antarctic stations in terms of country representation. Moreover, we would like to know the availability and quality of direct internet connection at the stations for the live webinar. In case it is not possible, a pre-recorded presentation is also welcome.

More information on all our Antarctica Day activities is available on our website, which will be updated as we progress:
At this phase, we are very much interested in gathering expressions of interest to give a presentation/talk as soon as possible (we apologize for a relatively short notice). Any advice on Antarctic stations with good internet connectivity or contact information of potential speakers would also be highly appreciated.

To send your expression of interest or get more information, please feel free to contact our project coordinators:
