We would like to announce the release of the new Glacier Thickness Dataset
(GlaThiDa). The first release of this dataset contains glacier thickness
observations from more than 1,000 glaciers worldwide and is available from
the website of the Global Terrestrial Network for Glaciers (GTN-G):

The dataset was compiled by an ad hoc working group and published in a
corresponding (open access) article in Global and Planetary Change:

GlaThiDa is our initial contribution to the working group on "Glacier ice
thickness estimation"
(http://www.cryosphericsciences.org/wg_glacierIceThickEst.html), which was
recently formed under the auspices of the International Association of
Cryospheric Sciences (IACS). The working group, lead by Huilin Li and
Daniel Farinotti (Cc), will ensure the continuation and expansion of
GlaThiDa. A first open call for data will follow in the near future.
