Dear CRYOLIST-subscribers,
Based on this year's call-for-data we can announce that the glaciers
around the globe are reported to continue losing mass at high rates. For
the observation period 2012/13, the average annual mass balance of the
observed glaciers was -0.66 m w.e. Slightly positive balances were
reported from some glaciers in Europe and New Zealand.
This year we introduced a near-time reporting from our 'reference'
glaciers with more than 30 years of continued observations. Preliminary
estimates from this sample indicate that the mass budgets of the current
observation period (2013/14) were similarly negative.
On our website you find the reported data from more than 125 glaciers
worldwide, including some basic statistics and figures:

Based on the received information we will publish our next data report in
2015.

2012/13, please use the WGMS MetaData Browser:

Our work relies on the cooperation and help of many scientists and
observers throughout the world. We highly appreciate their long lasting
contribution in collaboration with our National Correspondents, who are
coordinating the data collection in their country for submission to the
WGMS.
Sincerely yours,
Michael Zemp and collaborators of the WGMS
