Apologies for cross-postings.
We want to draw your attention to the session T22 'Glacial and periglacial environments and their benefits and risks related to recent climate change in Asian high mountains' to be held at the INQUA XIX Congress, 27 July - 2 August 2015 in Nagoya, Japan.
Session Id: T22
Session title: Glacial and periglacial environments and their benefits and risks related to recent climate change in Asian high mountains
Conveners:
Jiro Komori [Teikyo Heisei University], Chiyuki Narama [Niigata University], Kotaro Fukui [Tateyama Caldera Sabo Museum], Atsushi Ikeda [University of Tsukuba], Koji Fujita [Nagoya University]
Session description:
As well as glacial and periglacial environments are sensitive to recent climate change, the impact of their changes is intense and complicated on Asian high mountains. Their changes bring beneficial resources such as water and tourism, these also are cause of natural hazards. In this respect, we have to take notice of such sensitive environments from a standpoint of modern human responsibility and scientific interest. Glacial and periglacial environments in Asian high mountains including island arcs have significant spatial variability and characteristics due to geographical and climatic contrast. Because understanding of their current state under recent climate changes and risks of glacier hazards in Asian high mountains is not enough, we organized this session in order to share new knowledge and information.
This session calls for papers which discuss the recent changes of glacial and periglacial environments and their beneficial/hazardous states for surrounding lives. Study area on this session is mountains and cold regions in the modern and similar environments in the past around Asia. We are also welcome from studies on the other continent as the comparative study. This session is contributed from findings of field survey, observation, remote sensing and laboratory analyses based on geomorphology, glaciology, climatology, geoecology, and disaster science.
Deadline for abstracts is 20 December 2014. http://convention.jtbcom.co.jp/inqua2015/call_for_abstracts.html
