The Mountain HydroClimatology Research Group at Oregon State University has 3 years of funding available for an outstanding PhD candidate to assist with a NASA-funded project focusing on snowpack characteristics in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, Alaska.
The ideal candidate will have a MS in geography, hydrology, climatology, or related field; a strong background in snowpack modeling and remote sensing; excellent oral and written communication skills, and experience in field-based studies. Skills in programming, GIS, and statistical analysis are an asset.
The project is funded through NASA's Arctic Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) and is entitled "Assessing alpine ecosystem vulnerability to environmental change using Dall sheep as an iconic indicator species". It will involve snow modeling, analysis of remotely sensed data, and two seasons of fieldwork in Alaska.
Highly qualified applicants are encouraged to apply to either the OSU Water Resources Graduate Program (http://oregonstate.edu/gradwater/) or the OSU Geography Graduate Program, in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (http://ceoas.oregonstate.edu/academics/geography/).
In addition to the regular OSU application process, applicants should also send a cover letter, CV, unofficial academic transcripts, and list of 3 references to:
Dr. Anne Nolin
The application deadline is January 5th, 2016.
