[CRYOLIST] EGU 2016 session: Linking terrestrial, aquatic and oceanic carbon cycle processes in a changing Arctic climate

Sorry for potential cross-posting!

Dear colleagues,

Please consider submitting abstracts to our session at the 2016 EGU general assembly (www.egu2016.eu/) which will take place Apr 17-22 in Vienna, Austria:

Session ID: CR6.3
Session title: Linking terrestrial, aquatic and oceanic carbon cycle processes in a changing Arctic climate

We'd like to stress at this point that contributions from any observational and modeling studies relevant for cryosphere-carbon-climate (CCC) interactions in the Northern high latitudes, ideally across ecosystem boundaries, are very welcome. For more information see the detailed session description below.

Our invited speakers are
Victor Brovkin, Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg, Germany
Peter Raymond, Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, New Haven, CT

The deadline for abstract submission is Wednesday, Jan 13, 2016 (13:00 CET).
Please submit through https://administrator.copernicus.org/authentication.php

We are am looking forward to receiving your abstracts and to meeting you in Vienna next year.

Best regards,
Mathias Goeckede
Oerjan Gustafsson
Jorien Vonk

Session Title:
Linking terrestrial, aquatic and oceanic carbon cycle processes in a changing Arctic climate

Conveners:
Mathias Goeckede, Max-Planck-Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena, Germany (mgoeck@bgc-jena.mpg.de)
Oerjan Gustafsson, Stockholm University, Sweden (Orjan.Gustafsson@aces.su.se)

Session description:
This session brings together observational and modeling studies that improve the current understanding of cryosphere-carbon-climate (CCC) interactions across boundaries of ecosystems/earth systems compartments in the Northern high latitudes. We particularly invite contributions on:

1) research linking terrestrial carbon cycle processes with lateral export into rivers and oceans and related source/sink processes in both aquatic and oceanic ecosystems;
2) the relative roles of remobilization of subsea permafrost or gas hydrates, input from coastal erosion and lateral transport through rivers for the carbon and methane budgets of the Arctic, and potential interactions with the global carbon cycle and climate; and
3) the combination of such insights into estimates of the carbon budget of the entire Arctic, or for specific key regions like the East Siberian Arctic Ocean, as well as their improved representation in process-based model formulations
