Dear colleagues
It is with great sadness that I have been asked to inform members of the glaciology community of the unexpected passing of Professor David Collins yesterday afternoon (Thursday 8th September).
Although I do not have full details at this stage, it appears that David encountered difficulties whilst swimming on holiday in Croatia. Attempts to revive him were unfortunately unsuccessful.
I am being kept informed by David's friends and colleagues in Manchester concerning arrangements for his repatriation and funeral; this is likely to take some time given the circumstances.
However, I would be grateful if those colleagues who wish to pay their respects to David when these arrangements have been made could make contact with me such that I may keep you informed.
