In celebration of Polar Week 2016, the US Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (USAPECS) is announcing the Polar Film Fest! This is a virtual film festival - everything is online and you can watch the films whenever you want.
We've assembled a set of short films (and some longer ones) for each of four themes. Each night we'll have scientists with relevant expertise watching the films and available to answer questions on Twitter using #PolarFilmFest. Please help us spread the word – and then enjoy some movies and join the conversation!
- Monday (Sept 19) is "Frozen Worlds: the cryosphere." These films cover glaciers to sea ice, permafrost to brinicles.
- Tuesday (Sept 20) is "Partly Frozen, Mostly Cute: polarecology and biology." These films include penguins, polar bears, Arctic foxes, sharks, and more!
- Wednesday (Sept 21) is "Climate and Connections: polarregions in the global picture." These films talk about the roles the polar regions play in the global climate system.
- Thursday (Sept 22) is "People at the Poles: the humandimension." The last day of the film fest explores how people live, work, and play in the polar regions.
If you want to get involved, host an in-person showing or a virtual watch party. Email usapecs@gmail.com with any questions.
