Dear CRYOLIST-subscriber,
Based on last year's call-for-data, we can announce a new data release
including glacier fluctuations up to the year 2013/14 and preliminary mass
balance values for 2014/15.
For the observation period 2013/14, the average annual mass balance of the
observed glaciers was
-0.6 m w.e. Preliminary values from 'reference' glaciers (with more than
30 observation years) indicate a mass loss of more than 1 m w.e. for
2014/15 which is probably related to last year's el Niño event.
With this update, we added more than 26,000 additional data records.
Overall, the Fluctuations of Glaciers database now provides access to
44,000 front variation observations from 2,480 glaciers, 6,195 mass
balance records from 427 glaciers, and 2,600 geodetic volume changes from
1,830 glaciers.
It might be worthwhile to note that we also have 27,000 point mass balance
observations from 108 glaciers as well as a lookup table linking glacier
IDs of the FoG database with WGI, GLIMS, and RGI.
