Dear Cryolisters,
On behalf of the Hydrology Section Student Subcommittee (H3S) I am emailing to encourage you or a group you represent to submit a pop-up session proposal for the American Geophysical Union (AGU) 2016 Fall Meeting. Pop-up sessions are meant to cover a wide range of topics and provide AGU members an opportunity to present their ideas at the AGU Fall Meeting in a short, 5 minute TED-like talk style. Potential session conveners are encouraged to develop session themes that strive to fuel discussions outside of the current AGU research realm.
For example, last year's Social Dimensions Pop-Up session, which was open to all AGU members, encouraged presenters to discuss topics such as interdisciplinary research, diversity and equality in the geosciences, and mentoring. To read more about the pop-up sessions that were held last year and see example session descriptions, please visit: http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2015/students/student-pop-talks/.
The AGU session proposal deadline is April 20, but before you stop reading, there is some flexibility in this date because pop-up session approval does not go through the typical AGU session proposal process. To submit a proposal please email your pop-up session title, convener(s) contact information, and session description (max 200 words) to Sheila Saia (sms493@cornell.edu) with "Pop-Up Session Proposal Submission" in the email subject line (preferably) by April 20. However, if you are not able to make this deadline but are interested in submitting a session proposal, please email Sheila by April 20 about your intention and suggested new deadline. Questions about deadline extensions or submissions can also be directed to Sheila Saia.
Please pass this along to others people you know who might be interested in convening a pop-up session.
Sorry for any cross postings.
All the best,
Harsh Beria
