[CRYOLIST] AGU session C010: Atmospheric drivers of recent and future changes in the cryosphere

Dear colleagues,

Please consider submitting an abstract to our AGU session, which focuses on the atmospheric drivers of recent and future cryospheric changes.

We hope to see many of you in San Francisco!

All the best,

C010: Atmospheric drivers of recent and future changes in the cryosphere

Invited speakers:
Eric Steig (University of Washington)
Linette Boisvert (NASA)
Kristof van Tricht (University of Leuven)

Session ID#: 8650
Session Description:
Glaciers and ice sheets, sea ice, and seasonal snow cover have been rapidly declining in thickness and extent during the past decades, and is generally attributed to human-induced global warming amplified at higher latitudes. However, there are large uncertainties in our understanding of which atmospheric processes control and interact with cryospheric changes observed in the recent past and projected in future scenarios. For example, what controls recent Greenland surface mass loss versus East Antarctic mass gain? How can we explain recent Antarctic sea ice expansion? What do future scenarios tell us about precipitation changes on glaciers, and how do they impact glacier mass balance? We welcome contributions that highlight recent advances in understanding the atmosphere-cryosphere system and changes therein, using in-situ observations, remote sensing, (snow, sea ice, or climate) modeling studies, theory, or a combination of these.
