Dear Colleagues,
Please consider submitting an abstract to the following Earth and Planetary Surface Processes session at the AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco, 14-18 December 2015.
Arctic Coastal Zone Mapping and Hazards
Session ID#: 8828
https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/preliminaryview.cgi/Session8828
Description:
Arctic coastal areas are increasingly threatened by coastal erosion, storm-surge flooding, relative sea level rise, and potential oil spills; these hazards are likely to intensify in the future as sea-ice melts, temperatures warm, and Arctic shipping routes see increased traffic. Accurate maps of the coast, including both bathymetry and topography, as well as sea level/land level changes, are fundamental for understanding, modeling and projecting future vulnerability and form the basis for informed Arctic coastal management. As the U.S. takes on chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Arctic Council in 2015, we invite contributions from coastal and nearshore mapping efforts in Arctic regions that focus on new technologies, overcoming existing technical challenges, and/or demonstrate linkages to assessing climate change, coastal hazards, ecosystem management, and oil spill response.
Oral and poster contributions are welcome.
