We invite you to submit an abstract to our 2015 AGU Fall Meeting session: "The Greenland Ice Sheet in Past and Future Climates." This session aims to bring together a variety of speakers from the perspectives of observations and modeling. The session is convened by graduates of the 2014 Advanced Climate Dynamics Course, and we especially encourage students and early career scientists to submit abstracts.
C048: The Greenland Ice Sheet in Past and Future Climates
Session ID#: 8557
Session Description: Recent instrumental and satellite measurements indicate the Greenland Ice Sheet is undergoing rapid change in response to climate forcing. Across the ice sheet, changing atmospheric temperature is producing surface melt over an expanded area, significantly impacting basal ice conditions and slip where surface melt reaches the bed. At the ice sheet margin, outlet glaciers are accelerating as ocean temperature and circulation change. Though these recent changes have occurred on a short time scale, the full ice sheet response will continue to unfold over hundreds to thousands of years. Understanding and predicting this response requires records of past ice sheet state and models that are capable of simulating coupled climate and ice sheet evolution. This session invites presentations on geological records and coupled models of Greenland Ice Sheet dynamics in past and future climates. This session is convened by participants from the 2014 Advanced Climate Dynamics Course:http://www.uib.no/en/rs/acdc/
We are pleased to confirm invited speaker Joe MacGregor, University of Texas at Austin.
