[CRYOLIST] Greenland Ice Sheet workshop, Bergen, Norway April 19-21

We are excited to announce a three-day workshop in Bergen, Norway titled: "The stability of the Greenland Ice Sheet: Lessons from the past."  Workshop dates: April 19-21.

We envision a workshop focused on three current themes centered on (1) the ice-sheet surface (e.g., atmospheric forcing, Holocene and longer records of climate forcing); (2) the ice-sheet margins (e.g., ice-ocean interactions); and (3) the ice-sheet base (e.g., basal processes, subglacial hydrology and archives of ice sheet history from the bed under and beyond the ice).

Tackling the topic of Greenland Ice Sheet stability from a paleo perspective requires input from a range of disciplines that encompass both paleodata generation (ice and climate history, onshore and offshore) and numerical ice sheet modeling.

We wish to gather a diverse community of experts, including early career scientists, to bring different datasets and approaches together to see if consensus can be reached on the current state of knowledge of Greenland Ice Sheet history and sensitivity to climate forcing. We anticipate being able to provide partial funding for a limited number of early career researchers. We plan for workshop registration to be very affordable.

The goal of this workshop is to (a) synthesize the current state of knowledge on the sensitivity of the Greenland Ice Sheet to climate change using insights from the past, and (b) develop key research priorities that will help guide future efforts to make significant traction on the problem of Greenland Ice Sheet stability. The workshop organizers will work with the community on a manuscript that prioritizes future research centered on three themes (surface, margin, base).
