Dear Cryolisters,
The Institute of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences (ACINN, http://acinn.uibk.ac.at/), University of Innsbruck, Austria, invites applications for a full-time tenure track university assistant position on regional climate modeling, starting as soon as possible (see the job description below).
The official opening is available on the University of Innsbruck's Career Portal (https://orawww.uibk.ac.at/public/karriereportal.home) -- which is only in German and is only "open" for 3 weeks (because it is tenure track position). If you do not understand German, please refer to the job description below (the command of the German language is not a pre-requisite for this position).
You may apply through this career portal, but also directly by sending the required material via e-mail to the head of department. He is, of course, also more than happy to answer any questions regarding the position.
Please note the application deadline: July 11 2018
(even if you apply directly through e-mail, you have to do this before, or at latest on, July 11 2018).
We are offering a permanent position for a regional climate modeler in a stimulating environment - stimulating in the academic sense (we do have quite a bit of experience in atmospheric modeling over complex mountainous terrain, and also in the treatment and understanding of atmospheric and glaciological processes over topography), and equally stimulating when just looking out of the window, and thus directly into the heart of the Alps with its enormous potential for all sorts outdoor and cultural activity.
If you have any questions regarding this position, please do not hesitate to contact the head of the department (mathias.rotach<at>uibk.ac.at).

Full Job description:
The Institute of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences (ACINN), University of Innsbruck, Austria, invites applications for a full-time tenure track university assistant position on regional climate modeling, starting as soon as possible. The position will initially be issued as a six-year fixed-term contract with the possibility for tenure. The Ice and Climate research group, where the position will be affiliated, has a strong history in mass and energy balance assessments of glaciers and ice sheets all over the world and their interaction with climate. Numerical modeling includes process models, downscaling approaches and case studies. There is an excellent collaboration with the Atmospheric Dynamics research group where high-resolution numerical modeling over mountains (on weather time scales) is one of the research foci.
We seek an individual to join our team who will be responsible for regional climate modeling in mountainous terrain. The particular research areas will include the assessment of the ability of regional climate models at high or very high resolution to reproduce relevant atmospheric processes over mountainous terrain such as the Alps. This will lead to a better understanding of the applicability of the output in applied models (such as glacier modeling) and possibly improvement. The successful candidate is expected to build her/his own research group on these topics.
With respect to teaching (4 hrs/week) ACINN runs attractive Bachelor and Master programs (in 'Atmospheric Sciences'), in which the successful candidate can take over existing courses and/or create new exciting formats. University assistants are expected to actively contribute to academic university life.
The institute's facilities are located in the heart of Innsbruck, which is located in the Austrian Alps and known for a wide range of outdoor and cultural activities (www.innsbruck.at).
Candidates must have (1) a doctoral degree in earth or atmospheric sciences (or a related discipline) and some years of post-doc experience, (2) profound experience in regional or global climate modelling and /or atmospheric processes over mountainous areas, and (3) excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills for team work. Activities in the areas of open source/open data are very welcome. Fluency in English is required; Knowledge of the German language is not strictly required for this position, but the successful candidate will convincingly demonstrate her/his willingness to acquire the basics (e.g., for teaching in the BSc program). The University of Innsbruck seeks to increase the proportion of females in the faculty – so that applications from top qualified female scientists are especially encouraged.
For questions please contact the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Mathias Rotach (mathias.rotach<at>uibk.ac.at).
For applications please send your material (letter of interest, CV, list of publications, research plan, teaching statement) directly by e-mail to the Head of Department or use the university's job portal (https://orawww.uibk.ac.at/public/karriereportal.home - in German only). The deadline for applications is July 11 2018.
