[CRYOLIST] Two post-doctoral positions at the University of Bristol

Two post-doc positions are available in the Bristol Glaciology Centre within two different projects:

Post I

The primary aim of this project is to determine the factors influencing sea level rise, including glacio-isostatic adjustment, during the satellite era and, eventually, for the 20th Century by combining a range of satellite and ground-based observations within a statistical inference model.

This post requires a background in solid earth geophysics or geodesy.  You should, ideally, have experience in the analysis and interpretation of GNSS or VLBI data or other measurements or models of vertical land motion. Knowledge of modelling or estimating glacio-isostatic adjustment would be advantageous. You must have good programming skills.  This post is part of a European Research Council grant that includes four other positions tackling different aspects of the sea level budget.

You may be appointed either on a fixed-term or a permanent contract, depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience. Further information can be found at www.bristol.ac.uk/personnel/ftc/. The funding for the post is up to 48 months.

Interviews are likely to be held in the week commencing 27th June, and the expected start date is August-October 2016. Informal enquires are welcome.

Grade : Level a in Pathway 2

Salary : £31,656-£34,526

Contacts:  Professor Jonathan Bamber; E-mail: j.bamber@bristol.ac.uk

Further details and an application form can be found at  ACAD102020

The closing date for applications is 23.59, Thursday 16th June.

Post II

The primary aim of this project is to use data from ESA's CryoSat II satellite, alongside SAR interferometry, for the detection of grounding lines in Antarctica. The project involves the development of software and the analysis of the CryoSat II time series over Antarctica.

A background in some aspect of environmental sciences would be advantageous but not essential.  You should have experience in the analysis, interpretation, and visualisation of remote sensing data from sensors such as altimetry, Synthetic Aperture Radar or similar geophysical data sets, preferably applied to glaciers or ice sheets.

If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed-term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience. Further information can be found at www.bristol.ac.uk/personnel/ftc/. The funding is for up to 2.5 years.

Interviews are likely to be held in the week commencing 4th July, and the expected start date is August 2016 or to be agreed. Informal enquires welcome.
