[CRYOLIST] AGU session on ice-ocean interactions on Earth and Ocean Worlds!

Greetings Cryolist!

We would like to invite the community to consider submitting abstracts to our AGU 2016 Fall Meeting session, which focuses on ice-ocean interaction, in its many forms. Specifically with this session, we seek to enable a crossover discussion between Earth and other Ocean Worlds investigations, by bringing together cutting edge work from the terrestrial glaciology and oceanography communities and planetary sciences. It is listed in the Planetary Sciences section, and cross-listed with Cryosphere.

Session title: Cracking Up: Ice-ocean Dynamics on Earth and Ocean Worlds (ID 13931)

Session Abstract: Ice-fluid interactions are major contributors to the dynamic and often unpredictable processes observed across many "ocean worlds," including marine-terminating ice on Earth and the floating shells of distant icy satellites. However, our understanding of the physical processes controlling ice-ocean interaction remains limited, even on Earth. Bringing together Earth and planetary studies of ice-fluid interaction is the aim of this session, which invites abstracts focused on dynamic phenomena that arise in ices due to ice-fluid interactions.  This session is open to contributions regarding sea ice, glaciers and ice shelves, icy satellites, Pluto, and beyond. Examples of these dynamics range from sea ice drift and ice shelf collapse, to plumes on Enceladus, to chaos on Europa. Seeking to bridge Earth-planetary studies of ice-water interactions, we encourage studies on: in-situ/remotely-sensed observations; experimental/modeling campaigns of ice/ice-water regimes; impact of melt beneath or within ice; coupled ice-ocean physical and circulation models; analog studies.

Please consider contributing to what aims to be a fruitful discussion of ice-ocean dynamics on Earth and around the solar system. We look forward to your contributions! Any questions can be addressed to Catherine (catherine.c.walker@jpl.nasa.gov). We are very interested in receiving abstracts from a wide range of researchers to foster the Earth-planetary research connection.

As a reminder, the AGU 2016 abstract submission deadline is 11:59 PM EDT on 3 August 2016. Thanks for your consideration!
