[CRYOLIST] Call for Abstracts, Session on Polar Cross-Cryosphere Linkages, IUGG 2015 General Assembly, Prague 22 June-2 July [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Dear Colleagues,

we cordially invite you to submit an abstract for a session on Understanding Linkages Between Different “Elements” of the High-Latitude Cryosphere (IACS Symposia, Session C07) at the IUGG 2015 General Assembly in Prague, Czech Republic, June 22-July 2, 2015.

Deadline for abstract submission: January 31st 2015

For further details see: http://www.iugg2015prague.com/scientific-program/iacs-symposia.htm

Description of IACS Symposia Session C07 “Understanding Linkages Between Different Elements of the High-Latitude Cryosphere”:

Major change is occurring in the high-latitude cryospheres of both hemispheres, yet little is known about the inter-relationships between the different component “elements” of the cryosphere and how change in one may affect others. Tantalizing recent studies suggest that these linkages may be complex and involve subtle and previously-unconsidered feedbacks. In this symposium, we invite contributions from any area of Arctic and Antarctic science which is investigating linkages between different cryospheric elements i.e., sea ice, ice sheet/glaciers, icebergs, snow and permafrost (interconnected by oceanic and atmospheric processes). Contributions involving both observational analyses and model studies are highly welcome. The aim is to promote and foster cross-disciplinary engagement and to give momentum to this exciting and potentially-important new line of research. This topic forms a new “targeted activity” of the World Climate Research Programme CliC (Climate and Cryosphere) Project (http://www.climate-cryosphere.org/). As defined by CliC, a targeted activity is a focussed 3- to 5-year research activity designed to increase understanding of the relationship between climate and cryosphere. This symposium is co-sponsored by CliC.

Confirmed solicited speaker: Ted Scambos (Boulder, USA).

We look forward to seeing you in Prague!

With kind regards,

Rob Massom (Convener, Hobart, Australia),
Ian Allison (Co-convener, Hobart, Australia), and
Cristina Surdu (Co-convener, Waterloo, Canada)
