[CRYOLIST] Postdoctoral position at the Université de Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada

Poste de stage post-doctoral à l'Université de Sherbrooke
(English version below)

Bilinguisme requis Français-anglais

Post-doctoral position at the University of Sherbrooke

Monitoring the seasonal dynamics of the Arctic snowpack

Several recent studies have shown that climate warming in northern regions, which is twice as important in high northern latitudes than elsewhere in the world, could accelerate. Snow is a key parameter in the surface energy balance of northern regions (high albedo, thermal insulation, high latent heat flux), as well as in the water balance (water reserve). The knowledge of physical properties of the snow cover and its spatial and temporal dynamics in relation to climate variability is necessary to better understand the interaction processes involved: effects of global warming, feedback effects of snowmelt on climate and effects on the ground heat balance and permafrost.

This project will involve theoretical development (understanding of interaction processes), modeling of snow cover evolution (Crocus Météo-France) and experimental field work in the Arctic, notably in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. These 3 elements will be carried out in the continuity of the current projects.

Funding assured for one year (postdoctoral fellowship possibly renewable).

Requirements: PhD in environmental geophysics or equivalent, less than 5 years old, with a good math-physics background, Phyton knowledge, hardworking and motivated, team player (collaborations with Environment Canada), loving the outdoors, snow and not afraid by extreme temperature!
Bilingualism required French-English.
