The Antarctic Research Centre (ARC), Victoria University of Wellington, has a new $7M, 5-year, programme aiming to investigate and quantify future sea-level changes and associated impacts both at a local New Zealand and at a global scale. To aid in this research we are now looking to appoint two new research fellows in the fields of hydro glacio-isostatic modelling and ocean modelling. Appointments will be for three years starting in 2018, at a salary level commensurate with expertise. Expressions of interest for Ph.D projects related to these fields are also invited.
Research Fellow in Hydro-glacio-isostatic modelling, 3 years, full-time. Reference 2150
We seek an experienced solid Earth modeller who will work within the ARC to undertake numerical simulations of past, present, and future regional sea-level variations, based on model inputs from ice sheet reconstructions and predictions. The research will focus on resolving the far-field sea-level pattern, melt water source fingerprint and near-field sea-level influences on ice sheet dynamics. The successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise in numerical hydro-glacio-isostatic modelling, with a strong track record in publications and international conference presentations. The role requires a self-motivated candidate who can contribute effectively within a team of diverse specialists. It is anticipated that there will be sufficient scope within this role for the appointee to undertake other related work if desired. Other key requirements include fostering international collaborations, contributing to grant writing, and supervision of postgraduate students.
Research Fellow in Ocean modelling, 3 years, full-time. Reference 2151
We seek an experienced ocean modeller who will work within the ARC to undertake numerical simulations of past, present, and future oceanographic conditions specifically focused on Antarctica and the ice-proximal Southern Ocean. In particular, we are especially keen to hear from applicants with expertise in ice-shelf cavity modelling, in coupling of ocean models to ice sheet models, or in using eddy-resolving models across larger domains (e.g. global). The successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise in numerical ocean modelling, with a strong track record in publications and international conference presentations. The post requires a self-motivated candidate who can contribute effectively within a team of diverse specialists. It is anticipated that there will be sufficient scope within this role for the appointee to undertake other related work if desired. Other key requirements include fostering international collaborations, contributing to grant writing, and supervision of postgraduate students.
