Two new ice velocity maps assembled from satellite interferometric synthetic-aperture radar data acquired in 1997 and 2009 are now available at NSIDC:
MEaSUREs InSAR based Ice Velocity of Central Antarctica
These maps, part of the NASA Making Earth Science Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program, were built from 2009 data from RADARSAT-2 (Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA)), and 1997 data from RADARSAT-1 (CSA). RADARSAT-2 data acquisitions in 2009 are courtesy of the International Polar Year Space Task Group and were part of a multi-SAR-sensor effort to provide interferometric SAR coverage of the entire Antarctic continent during the International Polar Year.
This work is part of a project that already led to two data sets already available at NSIDC:
(1) Ice Velocity Map of Antarctica from Satellite Radar Interferometry
(Version 1.0) - http://nsidc.org/data/nsidc-0484.html
(2) Antarctic Grounding Line from Differential Satellite Radar Interferometry
(Version 1.0) - http://nsidc.org/data/nsidc-0498.html
Data were processed at the Department of Earth System Science, University of California, Irvine.
For the project team,
