Hello All
I am happy to announce that the Tulane Cosmogenic Nuclide Laboratory has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher. I am seeking an individual with an interest in applying measurements of cosmogenic in situ carbon-14 to subglacial bedrock cores collected from Mt Murphy, Antarctica to detect recent changes in the thickness of Thwaites Glacier. The in situ carbon-14 measurements will complement measurements of longer-lived cosmogenic nuclides and luminescence dating of the core tops. Additionally, the incumbent postdoctoral researcher will also work on to-be-collected cores from the Hudson Mtns with the possibility for fieldwork. Backgrounds in cosmogenic nuclide analyses and applications and/or glacial geology and glaciology is preferred but not required. This is part of the interdisciplinary International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration and the overall aim is to answer "How Much, How Fast" can the Thwaites system contribute to sea level rise. The postdoc will join the Geological History Constraints, which aims to quantify if and when Thwaites Glacier was smaller than present during the Holocene and earlier times. More information on the GHC project can be found at www.thwaites-ghc.org and the larger ITGC project at www.thwaitesglacier.org.
Tulane University is in the vibrant and diverse city of New Orleans and is unlike any other place. We are a private research university with a large group of researchers in multiple disciplines focusing on sea level rise, coastal resiliency, and societal impacts and thus the postdoctoral researcher will have many opportunities for collaboration. Additionally, the ITGC initiative has a focus on ECR mentoring. The position is funded for 2 full calendar years; starting date will be after October 1 and is flexible to accommodate those currently in postdoctoral positions or finishing their dissertation.
