Hi Cryosphere Scientists,
Please consider submitting to our session on "Mechanisms Driving Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Melt" at AGU 2020.
We'd like to bring together scientists working on this complex topic from different perspectives.
The submission deadline is July 29th, 2020.
Session Description:
The Greenland Ice Sheet (GIS) has been losing mass rapidly since the 1990s and is leading cryospheric contribution to global sea-level rise. Over half of the mass loss can be attributed to surface melt and runoff. The mechanisms causing the GIS surface to melt vary in spatio-temporal scales and locations, ranging from large-scale atmospheric circulation to regional-scale meteorology and from extrapolar forcings to local sea-ice impacts. Evaluating and integrating these mechanisms is crucial to better understand, attribute, and predict surface mass loss. This session aims to bring together studies on mechanisms of GIS surface melt using multiple approaches and on varying spatio-temporal scales. We welcome submissions across disciplines to investigate the GIS surface energy budget and surface mass loss including, but not limited to, recent major melt events and long-term melt trends using approaches such as in-situ observations, satellite measurements, model simulations, and paleoclimate analyses.
Thank you!
Best,
