We have a postdoctoral position using Elmer/Ice opening at Institut des Géosciences de l'Environnement (IGE) in Grenoble (France) in the area of numerical modelling of glacier flow and data assimilation.
The position is available from 1st of May 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter, and is for 1 year (renewable up to 3 years).
This post is part of the funded MAGIC project (The MountAin GlacIer foreCast framework), a joined project between IGE (PI F. Gillet-Chaulet) and FAU (Erlangen, Germany, PI J. Fürst) which aims to improve the hindcast and forecast skills of the state-of-the-art glacier model Elmer/Ice. A specific objective of the project, led by IGE, is to developp and apply ensemble data assimilation to fully exploit the growing body of information from satellite remote sensing and to reduce the initial uncertainties for future projections.
The researcher will be responsible of the developpment and validation of the ensemble data assimilation framework with applications to glaciers in the french Alps. He will work closely with F. Gillet-Chaulet and V. Peyaud in a lively, friendly and collaborative research environment.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in the domain of numerical modelling, data assimilation or glaciology.
Deadline for application is February 14th 2020.
