[CRYOLIST] New Climate Data Record of Sea Ice Concentration (T. Lavergne, OSI SAF)

Dear Sea Ice community,

The EUMETSAT OSI SAF team is pleased to announce the release of OSI-430-b, our new Interim Climate Data Record of Sea Ice Concentration.

OSI-430-b is an automatic, operational, extension of OSI-450 (1979-2015) from 1st January 2016 onwards, with a latency of 16 days.

OSI-430-b uses SSMIS satellite data, and ECMWF weather forecasts. The same algorithms and processing chains are used for OSI-430-b and OSI-450, to ensure climate consistency. The grid and file format are the same as OSI-450.

OSI-450 and OSI-430-b together form the "version 2" (V2) of the EUMETSAT OSI SAF Sea Ice Concentration Climate Data Records. They are EUMETSAT OSI SAF products, with R&D contribution from the ESA CCI.

More information about OSI-430-b and OSI-450, including access to data and documentation is available from http://osisaf.met.no/p/ice/ice_conc_cdr_v2.html

Users of the previous version of our Climate Data Records (V1, OSI-409, OSI-409-a, OSI-430) should note that the new data records implement significant improvements to the algorithms, and that the V1 data records are in the process of being deprecated.

You are warmly invited to start using the new CDRs, and contact us (osisaf-manager[at]met.no) for any additional information.

All the best,
Thomas Lavergne, and the OSI SAF team
