Towards YOPP Consolidation Phase
The International Coordination Office for Polar Prediction at the Alfred Wegener Institute, together with ECMWF and Environment and Climate Change Canada, is organizing webinars in preparation to the start of the upcoming phase.
1 July 2019 will mark the official start of the YOPP Consolidation Phase. To prepare for this occasion, on 24 and 25 June three webinars will highlight the achievements of the Year of Polar Prediction to date and challenges that lie ahead.
Participants will be given an overview of the work carried out as part of YOPP so far, and they will have a chance to ask questions about the concluding elements of the Polar Prediction Project.
AWI Webinar - Monday, 24 June 2019 from 09:00 to 10:30 UTC
In the first webinar, hosted by the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), the chair of the PPP Steering Group, Thomas Jung, will provide an overview of the YOPP Core Phase and the plans for the Consolidation Phase.

The Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP) is a major international activity that has been initiated by the World Meterological Organization' World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) as a key component of the Polar Prediction Project (PPP). It takes place from mid-2017 to mid-2019. The overarching goal of YOPP is to significantly advance our environmental prediction capabilities for the polar regions and beyond. As an internationally coordinated period of intensive observing, modelling, prediction, verification, user-engagement and education activities which involves various stakeholders, the Year of Polar Prediction contributes to the knowledge base needed to managing the opportunities and risks that come with polar climate change.
