[CRYOLIST] PhD position: Global snow depths from remote sensing and modeling

Dear all

A PhD position within remote sensing/modelling of snow depths is available at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo:
https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/212917/phd-research-fellow-in-global-snow-depths-from-remote-sensing-and-modeling
The fellowship is for 3 years and may be extended by 1 year for teaching at the department (25%).

The aim of the SNOWDEPTH project is to develop methods to measure snow depths from spaceborne remote sensing, and to generate global snow depth maps using data assimilation methods. The project has a special focus on applications of snow depth data in data-sparse regions, in particular for permafrost modelling, high-altitude precipitation, and climate reanalysis. Field work in Norway and Central Asia and a research stay of the candidate at a collaborating institution (NILU in Norway, University of Fribourg in Switzerland) are anticipated.

Deadline for applications: 31 October 2021

Thanks for spreading the word to potentially interested candidates!

Best wishes
Désirée Treichler
