We have now two open and exciting PhD positions in the Extreme Environments Research Lab in Sion, Switzerland.
1. PhD Position in the MOSAiC project
The Extreme Environments Research Laboratory (EERL) is looking for a PhD student for the "Closing the gap on understudied aerosol-climate processes in the rapidly changing central Arctic" project. This ambitious project aims to enhance our understanding of aerosol processes in the Arctic based on observations during the one year drift experiment "Multidisciplinary Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate" (MOSAiC). Your mission will be to analyze aerosol and trace gas data obtained during MOSAiC focusing on three particular research questions around the topics of Arctic air pollution from ship emissions, coarse mode aerosols and Arctic fog formation. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with several MOSAiC partners and in particular with the University of Michigan and Colorado State University. For further information, please visit this page: https://www.epfl.ch/labs/eerl/eerl-home-page/open-positions/open-phd-position-in-arctic-aerosols/ or contact: Julia.schmale@epfl.ch
2. PhD Position in the CRiceS project
The Extreme Environments Research Laboratory (EERL) is looking for a PhD student for the "Climate relevant interactions and feedback: the key role of sea ice and snow in the polar and global climate system" (CRiceS) project. This ambitious project aims to enhance our understanding of the ocean-ice-snow-atmosphere system by delivering improved models capable of describing polar and global climates. Your mission will be to conduct interdisciplinary research representing the atmospheric side by analyzing existing datasets and by using these observations to help improve models. You will use amongst other data from our laboratory's expeditions to the Southern and Arctic Oceans, i.e. the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition, MOCCHA and MOSAiC projects (for details see here). Work will be highly collaborative within the international CRiceS consortium.
