Dear all,
For an art project, I am looking for bubble-containing core ice from Greenland, currently stored in Europe.
I am working with Dutch photographer Suzette Bousema on a project that will be displayed in Singer Museum in Laren, The Netherlands, in fall 2019. The museum is renowned for its collection of impressionist and modern artwork and will have a temporary exhibition about Weather and Climate change in the arts, throughout the last 200 years. I will be the guest curator for the exhibition, and the museum has commissioned Suzette for a contemporary artwork on scientific exploration in the polar regions.
For that, she is taking photographs of ice core sections. At IMAU, we have some Antarctic blue ice core samples that she has used for photography already. However, she is now looking for an opportunity to take photos from a Greenland ice core. This can take place wherever the ice is currently stored (no need for transport), preferably in the coming few weeks. If you have ice core samples (25-50 cm of core, containing bubbles) available for photography, please get in touch with me or Suzette (suzette@bousema.eu). Specifically, we are looking for ice core samples currently stored in Europe. Note that the photography will be destructive as the best results are obtained on a slightly melting piece of ice.
Suzette has worked on other environment-related projects, like on plastic debris (Future Relics, https://suzettebousema.nl/Future-Relics), tippings points, and sea level (https://suzettebousema.nl/Commissioned-work), and I would highly recommend working with her.
Thanks and best regards,
on behalf of Suzette,
Peter Kuipers Munneke
