Hello all, not strictly glacial, but may interest those who enjoy a mix of field and lab work.
PhD Project: Landslide-fault interaction, M7.8 2016 Kaikōura Earthquake
We are searching for a suitable candidate to undertake a field and laboratory focused project investigating the interaction between surface fault rupture and the initiation of landslides, including large landslides and their failure mechanisms. This project is one of several doctoral projects contributing to the GNS-Science-led MBIE Endeavour project 'Earthquake-induced landslides and landscape dynamics: planning for and avoiding landslide hazard and risk'. Work completed during this research will contribute to a companion numerical modelling project led by University of Canterbury.
University of Auckland supervisors: Associate Professor Julie Rowland (JR) and Dr Martin Brook
Advisory Group: Dr Chris Massey, GNS Science and Dr Clark Fenton, University of Canterbury.
Funding: 3 year PhD fee-paying scholarship and stipend (NZ$27,000/yr)
Start date: as soon as possible
If you have strengths in structural geology and/or engineering geology with confidence in fieldwork, and a current and clean driver's license, please send a cover letter, CV and academic transcript to JR: j.rowland@auckland.ac.nz
