The University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Hydrological Science at the Assistant Professor level. The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Geography and will focus on aspects of sustainable water resource management, including e.g., the impacts of industrial, agricultural, recreational, and urban activity on water resources, or water resource stress associated with climate change (e.g., diminished snowpack, glacier retreat, increased evapotranspiration, changing precipitation patterns, and magnitude and frequency of droughts). Preference will be given to research programs at the watershed scale and we encourage applicants working in the areas of physical hydrology, hydroclimatology, aquatic ecosystems, or regional hydrological and meteorological modelling.
The candidate will establish close links to other hydrological research activities in the Department of Geography, the Department of Geoscience, and other units within the Faculty of Science and the Schulich School of Engineering. There are also outstanding opportunities to collaborate on social-science and health issues related to water resources (e.g., economics, policy, natural resource management) within the Department of Geography and the Faculties of Law, Environmental Design, and Medicine.
Ph.D. degree in hydrology or a closely related discipline is required by the anticipated start date of July 1, 2013. We seek candidates with strong research and teaching records who can complement and expand upon the strengths of the Department of Geography. Applicants should submit a CV, a statement of research and teaching interests, samples of publications, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (if applicable). Applicants should arrange for three confidential letters of reference to be submitted directly to the Chair of the Selection Committee:
